Animate image AI: GIF and MP4 from one picture
One generation, two useful files: a GIF for chats and email, an MP4 for social posts.
Advanced settings
Output: 480×480
This animate image AI tool adds a small movement to a still picture and gives you the result as both a GIF and an MP4. Upload a photo, choose a motion such as a breath or a gentle sway, and download either file or a WebP. Both come from one generation, so you pay once.
How it works
- 1
Add your image
Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP of up to 20 MB. The tool crops it square, centered by default, and you can reposition the crop if it cuts off something you need.
- 2
Set the movement
Five gentle motions are offered: blink, soft smile, breathe, light breeze and gentle sway. A one-line note can refine the choice.
- 3
Pick your file
Choose GIF, MP4 or WebP on the download panel. You can download more than one format from the same result, at no extra credit cost.
Why an animate image AI tool should give you both GIF and MP4
Plenty of people who search for animate image AI, or for a way to animate an image with AI, end up with a video file and then go looking for a converter. Others get a GIF, and then find their favorite social app turns it into something else or rejects it. The file you need depends on where it is headed, and you often don't know that at the start.
So every animate image AI result here is offered in both. The MP4 isn't just the same eight frames, either. A loop of about a second is awkward as a video, because players stop before you have noticed it moved. We repeat the loop to reach roughly three seconds, leave out the audio track, and encode it so it plays in common players.
| GIF | MP4 | WebP | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Length | One loop, repeats forever | About 3 s, loop repeated | One loop, repeats forever |
| Sound | None | None, no audio track | None |
| Good for | Chats, forums, email | Social posts, slides, video editors | Websites |
| Weakness | 256 colors per frame | Needs a player, doesn't loop by itself | Older software may not open it |
Which file to use from an animate image AI run
Go by the destination, not the file size. If the place you are posting isn't listed, the GIF is the safest first try.
- A group chat or forum post: download the GIF, since it plays inline in most places without a tap.
- A social feed or a story: download the MP4. Video is what those apps are built around.
- A slide deck: the GIF if you want it to loop on its own, the MP4 if you plan to control playback.
- A website you run: use the WebP. GIF is limited to a 256-color palette per frame, and WebP is not.
- Editing software: bring in the MP4 and loop it further on your timeline.
- One picture
- 8 drawn frames
- Choose GIF, MP4 or WebP
- Post it where it belongs
What the five motions actually do
Each motion in this animate image AI tool is a written instruction, not a vague style. They are deliberately small, because a small change is what keeps the picture looking like your picture. Here is what to expect from each before you use a credit.
| Motion | What moves | Choose it for |
|---|---|---|
| Blink | The eyes close once, slowly; the rest stays still | Portraits and pets looking at the camera |
| Soft smile | The mouth eases into a small smile and relaxes | Friendly portraits |
| Breathe | Chest and shoulders rise and fall once | Half-body shots and sleeping animals |
| Light breeze | Hair or fur shifts a little; the face stays the same | Long hair, fluffy pets |
| Gentle sway | The subject tilts a few degrees and returns | Full figures, and anything without a face |
Your own note can add a nudge, such as "only the left ear moves". Keep it to one idea. A note that asks for a new action is likely to be ignored or to distort the picture.
An honest limit: this isn't an image to video generator
When you search for animate image AI, many results are full image to video tools. They make clips several seconds long with camera moves and big actions, and they are the right call for that work. We do something narrower. You get 2 to 16 frames, typically 8, drawn as a loop. The MP4 reaches about three seconds only because the loop repeats.
Choose a video tool over animate image AI if you need a character to walk, a camera to fly through a scene, speech with matching lips, or anything that develops over time. Stay here if you want a picture that feels alive, a file small enough to send anywhere, and no timeline to learn. Both are reasonable. They just answer different questions, and an MP4 of a loop will look repetitive if you stretch it past a few seconds.
Can you animate image AI free of charge?
You can start your animate image AI work without paying or signing up. Three runs are free, and creating an account adds five more. Everything works online in your browser, with nothing to install. Free results have a small watermark in one corner and use standard quality, the lower of our two tiers. The watermark appears in the MP4 and the GIF alike, so if a clean file matters for a client post, plan on a paid run.
A paid run costs 1 credit at standard quality and 2 credits at high quality. Packs start at $6.99 for 25 credits and go up to $44.99 for 200. Credits in a pack never expire, while Pro plans give a fixed allowance each period. Downloading a second format from the same result costs nothing. A failed or blocked run gives its credit back automatically.
Before you post: three quick checks
Animate image AI output deserves a few seconds of checking, whichever file you choose.
- Watch ten or so loops. Small faults such as a flicker around an ear only show up on repeat viewing.
- Look at the join between the last frame and the first. If you see a hop, slow the speed slightly, or try a motion that moves less.
- Open the file on your phone. Motion that looks fine on a large screen can vanish at feed size, and that is the best moment to discover it.
Check permissions too. If the picture shows someone else, ask them first, and only upload images you have the rights to use.
Questions
Does the MP4 cost extra?
No. GIF, MP4 and WebP all come from the same generation, so you can download each one without spending another credit.
Does the MP4 have sound?
No. There is no audio track, and we don't generate sound. Add music in your editor or your social app if you want it.
Can I animate images with AI in a batch?
Not at the moment. Each generation takes one picture. Batch work on the AI tool isn't available, although our PNG and JPG format converters do accept several files.
Can I make the movement stronger?
Only a little. Animate image AI works best with small motion. Your note can ask for more, but large motion is where the subject starts to change shape. If you need big movement, a video tool will serve you better.
Does animate image AI work on drawings and paintings?
Often, yes, particularly those with one clear subject. Gentle sway and light breeze suit artwork, since they don't rely on a realistic face.
Can I keep a transparent background?
Not on this page, since the output has an opaque background and MP4 can't store transparency. Use the logo or sticker tools for transparent files.
