Privacy policy

The short version
- Pictures you upload for AI generation are sent to OpenAI for processing.
- We delete original uploads within 24 hours. Free and anonymous results are kept for 30 days, and paid results are kept until you delete them.
- Our PNG and JPG converters run in your browser, and those files never reach us.
- We use a browser fingerprint, a cookie and your IP address to count free generations and stop abuse.
- We don't use your pictures as examples unless you publish them yourself.
Who is responsible for your data
The Image to GIF AI Team, which runs imagetogifai.app, is the controller of your personal data. Contact us at support@imagetogifai.app.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, and basic profile details if you sign in with Google.
- Content: pictures you upload, text you enter and the results we generate. We strip embedded metadata such as EXIF location data when we process an upload.
- Payment records: what you bought and when. Stripe handles your card details, and we don't see or store your full card number.
- Anti-abuse data: your IP address, a cookie, a browser fingerprint and a Cloudflare Turnstile result.
- Usage data: pages viewed, actions taken in the tool, generation settings and timing, and error reports.
- Messages: what you send us when you contact support, file a report or send a DMCA notice.
Browser fingerprinting
To enforce the free allowance for people without an account, we compute a browser fingerprint: an identifier derived from characteristics of your browser and device. We use it along with a cookie and your IP address only to count free generations and to detect abuse. We don't use it for advertising.
How your images are processed by OpenAI
When you use an AI tool, your picture and any text you enter are sent to OpenAI to run moderation checks and to generate frames. We send a hashed identifier with each request so abuse can be traced, and never your email address or real user ID.
OpenAI states that data sent to its API isn't used to train its models unless a customer opts in. It also states that abuse monitoring logs are kept for up to 30 days, and longer where the law requires or where needed to prevent harm, and that image inputs are scanned for child sexual abuse material, with flagged images retained for manual review. This means OpenAI's copy can outlast our own 24 hour deletion. Read OpenAI's data policy at https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/your-data.
Why we use your data
- To provide the service you asked for, and to deliver what you paid for (performance of a contract).
- To keep the service safe, count free usage, prevent abuse and fix faults (legitimate interests).
- To measure how the site is used through optional analytics (consent, where the law requires it).
- To keep tax, payment and safety records (legal obligation).
Cookies and analytics
Essential cookies keep you signed in and count anonymous free generations. In regions where consent is required, including the EU and UK, we show a consent banner. Until you agree, PostHog runs in a cookie-free mode and Google Analytics 4 runs under Consent Mode, without analytics cookies. To change your choice later, clear this site's stored data in your browser and the banner will appear again.
Service providers
We share data with these companies only as needed to run the service. Some of them process data outside your country, under the safeguards the law requires.
- OpenAI: image generation and content moderation.
- Cloudflare: file storage, content delivery, Turnstile bot checks and inbound email.
- Vercel: website hosting.
- Tencent Cloud: hosts the server in the United States that processes generated files.
- Neon: database hosting.
- Stripe: payments and subscription billing.
- Resend: sign-in and account emails.
- PostHog: product analytics.
- Google Analytics 4 (Google): website analytics, with consent where required.
- Google: sign-in, if you choose it.
- Sentry: error monitoring.
- Better Stack: uptime monitoring.
- Sightengine: an extra moderation check on works submitted to the public gallery.
How long we keep data
- Original uploads and intermediate files: deleted within 24 hours.
- Results from anonymous and free accounts: 30 days.
- Results from paid accounts: until you delete them or close your account.
- If you delete a result: removed from our storage straight away, and any public page stops working.
- Payment and tax records: as long as the law requires.
- Moderation records: as long as needed for safety and legal purposes.
Public sharing
Results are private by default. A result becomes public only if you create a share link or publish it to the gallery. You can withdraw it at any time, and the public page then stops working.
Children
The service isn't for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child under 13 has used the service, email support@imagetogifai.app and we will delete the account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent. You can delete results and your account from your account page, or email support@imagetogifai.app. You may also complain to your local data protection authority. We don't sell your personal data.
Changes
We will update this page when our practices change, and we will give notice of significant changes on the site or by email.
